    About the Role:

The Director of Development (DOD) is a full-time, key leadership position responsible for cultivating and securing philanthropic support to advance New Day's mission of meeting unhoused people where they are and accompanying them into housing. This role requires a highly relational and strategic individual with a proven track record of successful fundraising, particularly with high-capacity individuals. The DOD will lead and execute a comprehensive fundraising program, focusing on major gifts, relationship building, and prospect research. This position emphasizes a proactive and investigative approach to identifying and engaging potential donors, leveraging both traditional and innovative methods.

    Responsibilities:

    • Relationship Building: Cultivate and steward strong relationships with current and prospective donors, focusing on high-capacity individuals and "connectors" (individuals closely connected to high-capacity prospects). Prioritize time spent engaging with these key stakeholders. Utilize relationship management and tracking systems (e.g., 4DX) to ensure consistent and effective engagement.

    • Prospect Research: Conduct thorough research and vetting of potential donors, utilizing a variety of resources, including 990s, property records, company information, affiliation groups, board memberships, philanthropic history, wealth screening tools, LinkedIn, and targeted Google searches. Develop and implement strategies to identify and engage "under-the-radar" prospects with capacity. Demonstrate an investigative mindset to uncover potential connections and giving opportunities. Example research strategies include:

      • Analyzing 990s, property holdings, company ownership, and board affiliations.

      • Identifying connections to New Day, the Catholic community, or related non-profits.

      • Utilizing wealth prospecting software and donor management systems.

      • Leveraging LinkedIn and targeted Google searches (e.g., "Notre Dame alumni and real estate investment and development").

      • Investigating relevant programs and initiatives (e.g., the ND Fitzgerald Institute for Real Estate) to identify potential prospects.

    • Fundraising Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising plans, including strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects. Set and achieve ambitious fundraising goals.

    • Visibility & Engagement: Spend ten hours per week on site, building storytelling capacity. Maintain a high level of visibility within the community, attending events, and engaging with community foundations and other granting organizations. Maintain a positive and active presence on social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram).

    • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure coordinated fundraising efforts. Effectively communicate with donors, prospects, and internal stakeholders.

    • Reporting & Analysis: Track and analyze fundraising progress, providing regular reports to leadership. Utilize data to inform fundraising strategies and identify areas for improvement.

    Qualifications:

    • Proven track record of successful fundraising experience, preferably with major gifts.

    • Experience with donor management software and wealth screening tools.

    • Strong communication and presentation skills.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Passion for New Day's mission.

    Preferred Qualifications:
